Principal's Message

Since the district was closed Thursday, our Cookies with Santa event did not take place.  Instead we will host a "Holiday Evening at Burr" next Wednesday, December 20th, at 6:00 PM.  All of the wonderful crafts and activities that were planned for "Cookies with Santa" will still be included.  The only change is that with how busy Santa and Mrs. Claus are next week, they will not be able to attend; thus the change in name of the event.  We can't call it "Cookies with Santa" without Santa. I hope you are all able to attend the "Holiday Evening at Burr" event next Wednesday!  It is certain to be a fun family celebration!

Burr Elementary Mission Statement

At Burr Elementary School, educational success depends on the combined efforts of all students, parents, staff and community.
We work together
to educate and challenge our children to meet their individual needs and goals. As a community, we will teach respect for uniqueness of self and the diversity of others.

The Academic Goals for the 2015-2016 School Year will continue to be:

1. Increase the number of students who score at the proficient level or higher in mathematics as measured by the district assessments and M-Step

2. Increase student's reading achievement in Kindergarten through 6th Grade

3. Increase student's writing scores on the district wide writing assessment

4. Increasing the number of students who score at the proficient level or higher in social studies and science

Conferences

At Burr Elementary, our children take responsibility for their learning and are equal partners in their learning with their parents and teachers. These conferences help establish communication between all the stakeholders: parent/guardian, student, and the teacher. A final benefit of Parent/STUDENT/Teacher conferences is the collaboration that emerges. At the conference, everyone shares ideas so that the final goals are the product of a three-way discussion. This is a true partnership between home and school that ensures a child’s academic success.
For the last 5 years, we had 100% participation at our Burr Elementary Fall Parent/STUDENT/teacher conferences. It is imperative that all our stakeholders are all on the same page. Please make sure that your child attends the conference.
